Meredith's mother died when she was a little girl, leaving just her husband and her daughter behind. Meredith and her father never had problems with money; Her father was a very powerful stockbroker back in Bridgeport, so Meredith had a big, cozy house with a maid, a butler, and a personal chef. she had many friends, and she was one of the most popular girls in her school. However, her riches and her popularity did not spoil her. she was one of the kindest people in town, always helping people out. Her father, as well as her butler, influenced her to be polite and proper to other people. She was also a very neat girl; her father taught her how to cook and clean when she was very young so she wouldn't rely on others to clean the house all the time. She was also a seriously hopeless romantic; she was always looking for her "Prince Charming," like the one her mother used to talk about, in stories. Many of the boys in school liked her, and she even had a few boyfriends, but none of them were the Prince Charming that Meredith was looking for.
Soon after Meredith turned 17, Her father met another woman. Courtney Rein, The meanest woman that Meredith had ever known.
She was horrible to Meredith whenever her father wasn't around. when he was around, she turned all sweet and would compliment Meredith and give her presents, through the grit of her teeth. However many times Meredith told her father about how mean she was, he would just chuckle and blow her off. A year later, when Meredith graduated from High School, her father and Courtney got married. Courtney became Meredith's new stepmother.
She became the worst thing that ever happened to Meredith. Her father started taking business trips more regularly as he was buying the most expensive jewellry and dresses for his new wife. Courtney forced Meredith to do all the cooking and cleaning around the house, as she convinced her husband to fire the maid and the butler so they could save money. In Courtney's language, that means so she could cause more pain to her new stepdaughter.
They, however, kept the personal chef. Why? Oh, you haven't even heard the best part. Courtney had daughters from a previous marriage. They were living with Courtney, and moved in with Meredith and her father after they got married. Meredith's new stepsisters. Kristy and Josephine Rein.
They looked exactly like their mother, and were every bit as snobby and evil as she was. They hated each other, but they hated Meredith even more. The only time they would ever agree on anything was if they were playing a prank on Meredith. They even stole her dolphin necklace that her boyfriend gave her, and threw it in the lake.
Just like their mother, Meredith's father showered them with all of the latest fashions and jewellry, like he did with Meredith. However, regardless of how many business trips he took, he just couldn't make enough money to make a living and give his new wife and stepdaughters what they wanted. He couldn't give up one or the other, so he started dipping into his savings. after two years of buying whatever his wife wanted, he finally went bankrupt. Meredith had to sell most of her stuff to pay off the debt her father owed, but she didn't mind. she hated seeing her father so upset. She was willing to do anything to see him smile again, like he used to.
Four months after Meredith turned 20, her father died of a stress-induced heart attack, leaving Meredith in the care of Courtney.
In his will, he left of all of the money he had left to...Courtney and her family. He also left them a property in Starlight Shores that they would have to move to, as the house was being sold back to the state. He left Meredith the rest of her mother's old things that he kept over the years, as well as the explanation as to why a house in Starlight Shores. He wrote, "It was your mother's old house, before we were married."
It certainly did not look like much. Not in the eyes of Courtney, Kristy, and Josephine, anyway. As there were only two bedrooms, Courtney took the double bed, and the sisters got the single beds. "Where will I sleep?" asked Meredith.
Courtney laughed. "The couch in the living room, where else?"
Courtney and the sisters settled right in. Courtney told Meredith to make her daughters waffles, as they were both starving. Not wanting to cause trouble, Meredith obeyed.
Courtney took Meredith's clothes away from her after her father died and gave them to Kristy and Joey. In return, she gave Meredith some of her old, torn up clothes to wear when she needed them, which is why she's wearing tattered clothes.
Meanwhile, Joey and Kristy got right to the arguing while Courtney checked herself out in the mirror, like she always does.
Needless to say, Meredith was already stressed out.
With the food done and the house clean, the stepfamily went to go watch TV on Meredith's new bed, while Meredith stepped outside to get some alone time.
She heard a knock on the door, and a "Anybody home?"
Meredith rushed to the door, and greeted her new neighbors with a bow.
"I'm Jamar, and this is Aaron. We came because we heard new people were moving in. We'd like to welcome you to the neighborhood."
Meredith couldn't help but notice how handsome Jamar looked. The two of them talked outside of the house for a while before even going inside. Jamar was sweet and kind, and even though she just met him, she was almost sure this was the guy she wanted to be with, the one that could take her away from this terrible place.
They, however, did go inside, only to be greeted by Joey, who apparently loved having handsome men in the house.
Aaron and Meredith talked for a while, and it was clear that Aaron had a crush on Meredith. He kept flirting with her and telling her how good she looked.
Joey soon picked up on this, and tried the same approach. It didn't work as well as she would like it to.
Meredith and Jamar ended up talking some more, and she told him about her past, and how her parents had passed away, and how she was living with her stepmother. She noticed he was a very good listener.
Aaron and Joey did soon get along, though, and soon, Joey was gossiping to him about her sister Kristy. Soon, it was the two girls fighting over Aaron.
Courtney wasn't liking the attention that Meredith was getting, so she tried talking to Jamar and excluding Meredith out of the conversation. This didn't work, however, as Jamar began telling Meredith how pretty she was and flirting with her in front of Courtney. This made Meredith happy. He really likes me!
Everyone else had a problem with this attention Meredith was getting.
"Meredith isn't even that pretty, why does everyone like her?" Kristy said to Jamar.
Joey pulled Meredith away to yell at her, "Stop talking to Jamar, and stop thinking that he likes you. no one will EVER like you, you're completely ugly."
Meredith broke away and returned to Jamar, talking to him in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, things sparked up between Joey and Aaron...
And Meredith spent the rest of the day with Jamar, watching TV and talking.
And it turns out, Aaron and Joey tried to Woohoo in the shower after making out in the backyard. Courtney caught them when she walked in on them in the bathroom.
Joey just thinks it's funny.
All in all, Meredith had a good day with Jamar. When Jamar had to leave, Meredith walked him out. "Jamar, i had a really good day today. I'm so glad i met you. Do you think we could meet again?"
Jamar sighed. "Listen, Meredith, I'm sorry if i gave you the wrong idea, but i'm married. I have a wife, Dianne. I'm sorry, i just don't think it would be a good idea to see each other again. Goodbye."
Jamar left Meredith crying in the rain.
How could this be? Meredith was sure he was the one she wanted to fall in love with. Nothing is working out anymore.
She managed to find a sleeping bag in the attic of the house when she was cleaning earlier, which was good. she didn't want to sleep in the house tonight. she laid the sleeping bag down, and slept in the rain. She didn't care where she was sleeping, because she knew that in dreams, you could lose your heartaches.
